Industry recognition highlights a simpler, safer approach to bedside oral care for hospitalized and critically ill patients.

Toothsure has been named Top Oral Care Device 2026 by MedTech Outlook and listed among the publication's Top Dental Care Devices. The feature, titled "Toothsure: The Forgotten Part of Patient Care That Could Change Healthcare," profiles our OralVac and OralVac+ systems and the clinical problem they were built to solve.

The forgotten part of patient care

Oral care is widely understood to matter in hospitals. Hospital-acquired pneumonia remains a significant challenge for health systems, and good oral hygiene is part of addressing it. Yet in practice, oral care is often the task that slips.

The reason is workflow, not awareness. Traditional protocols require multiple components and preparation steps, and they compete for time with medications, monitoring, documentation and urgent interventions. Patients with limited mobility, or in facilities with limited caregiver availability, bear the consequences.

"The problem wasn't awareness of oral care; it was that traditional approaches didn't fit the realities of healthcare." — Dr. Greg Baker, Co-founder and CEO

Dr. Baker saw this gap firsthand over nearly four decades as a dentist, examining patients in hospitals, nursing homes and long-term care facilities. Toothsure grew out of that experience.

Built for the bedside: OralVac and OralVac+

Toothsure's systems are pre-filled, single-use devices that combine brushing, rinse delivery and suction in one unit. They are waterless, so care can happen at the bedside without access to a sink.

  • OralVac serves general patient populations, and supports patient independence where possible.

  • OralVac+ is designed for critically ill patients, including those who are intubated and have limited airway protection. It delivers a measured amount of rinse with integrated suction.

Controlled fluid delivery is central to the ICU design. As Dr. Baker explains, "We know exactly how much we are giving the patient. Too much rinse can create problems, so controlling that process is extremely important."

The broader goal is compliance. Fewer steps make it more likely that oral care actually happens, shift after shift. "If you make something simpler and easier to use, it makes the caregiver more likely to actually use it," Baker says. "When compliance improves, outcomes have the opportunity to improve as well."

Building commercial momentum

The MedTech Outlook recognition arrives alongside two milestones that position Toothsure to scale.

  • Vizient Technology Expo. Toothsure was invited to present at Vizient's Technology Expo, a major purchasing event connecting medical technology companies with hospitals and health systems. "We view Vizient adoption as a key commercial milestone on the path to scale," says Dr. Baker.

  • Manufacturing in Eastern Kentucky. The Kentucky-based company has received support to establish a manufacturing facility in Eastern Kentucky. The facility will bring portions of the supply chain in-house and create skilled manufacturing opportunities in the region.

"Hospital-acquired pneumonia remains one of the significant challenges facing healthcare systems, and oral care is an important part of addressing that challenge. Our focus has been creating a solution that makes oral care easier for both patients and providers." — Brandon M. Wilde, Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer

What's next

Our first focus is the ICU, where the stakes are highest. From there, we see a clear path into long-term care, rehabilitation centers, assisted living and home healthcare. We are also exploring dental applications such as preventive care and fluoride treatments, portable hygiene for military settings, and industry partnerships to build commercial scale.

We are grateful to MedTech Outlook for the recognition, and to the clinicians, advisors and partners who have helped bring Toothsure this far. To learn more or discuss partnership opportunities, contact us.
